Maysie's Sad...wait, make that a Happy Face

I have been so impressed with Maysie's artwork these days I just had to post my newest favorite! She started out just being able to make good circles, then I showed her how to give them eyes and mouthes and she could draw happy faces and NOW look! It's a little person! This is the conversation we had about her picture that she drew ALL by herself:)

Mommy: That is a very nice happy face Maysie! (it started out just a head with a face)
Maysie: He's not happy mommy, he's sad.
Mommy: He is? Well, how come?
Maysie: Because he has no LEGS!
So she drew him some little tiny arms and legs and even gave him some shoes:)
Maysie: There, now he's happy.

I always wondered why you kept some of our strange creations and artwork mom, and set them out holiday after holiday for everyone to see...and now I know. Oh how I love her!!

Done! I think

So, four months, a few you tube videos, and some inspiration from Sarah's house later, I FINALLY got up the nerve to do it!! And I think it looks fabulous! Distressing my red hutch was actually very simple and I love the way it turned out. The old mustard yellow paint shows through and gives the piece a lot more dimension than it had when it was just red. Mark's not sure he likes it, says it seems silly to paint something nice and then mess it up. Maysie was pretty sure the scratches and scrapes were Danner's doing and kept scolding him. I like it though and think it fits our country farmhouse kitchen much better.

Staying Cool

I've set the sprinkler up for Maysie a few times this summer and I couldn't resist taking a few pics of her in this get up. She recently found her hat and undie "door" (drawer) in her bedroom and so we go through a few pairs of undies and several hats throughout the day. At this particular moment she's sporting her swim undies, very fitting, and daddy's camoflauge booney hat. Oh, and I didn't get a single picture of her with her tongue in her mouth:)

Sharing

I caught Maysie sharing her juice with Scout the other day. After I took some cute pictures, we had a talk about not sharing our food and drinks with Scout not only because he's allergic to everything under the sun, but because it's YUCKY!

***Fourth of July***

We had a really fun 4th of July weekend. On Saturday we were invited to T&M Electric's parking lot to watch the Cameron Park fireworks show. We had a great view and the show was amazing! You would never know we're in a recession right now! Maysie had fun running around with the other kids there and we had fun visiting with Mark's co-workers.

On Sunday we got up early, which was hard after getting to bed at midnight, and drove to Sacramento for Trevor and Heidi's 9 o-clock church service for Hallie's baby blessing. She was so precious and very quiet for her blessing. We met at Trevor and Heidi's house for lunch afterward and the kids had a great time running around while the rest of us visited.

Monday Mark got the day off and we spent the day at Oma and Papa's house working on projects. We had a delicious BBQ dinner and spent the day playing and staying cool:)

I Love to See the Temple

We went to the Temple last Wednesday for mutual with the Young Women and washed the windows of the cars in the parking lot and left thank you notes on the windshields thanking them for their service in our Temple. Maysie conveniently slept in the car until we were finished washing windows and then we went to see the water fountain, of which I didn't take any pictures, go figure. It makes me happy to see her so excited just to be at the Temple.

Signs of a Well Loved Bear

Maysie and I picked out a new bear for Scout at Hospice the other day. He knew right away when we got home that it was for him and he packed it off, mouthing it all the way down the hall. Scout is alway very nice to his new babies for the first week or so and just chomps them a little and carries them from room to room. But after a while he seems to run out of the will power needed to not chew their faces off. Noses and ears go first, right now he's working on the tail and soon it's paws will be gone and he will slowly pull all of the stuffing out until it's just an empty shell and then he's done:) Such a funny dog, we love him so much!

Belated Thank You Dinner

We finally had Oma and Papa over for dinner as a thank you for helping to watch over our house and our kitty while we were in MT for three weeks. Oma was very diligent in checking our mail for us as we were waiting for time sensitive papers that had to be mailed to us in MT. And Papa even mowed our lawn, ok, it's hardly a lawn, green weeds for us! We really appreciated their help. Maysie loves playing with Papa's i-phone, she has the whole finger slide to change the page thing down to a tee.
